Dawa
loads up with Tsampa Power
Today was a grey day and a
little cool. I was up early...trying
to bring the updates...up to
date...via the sat modem. I was just
generally moving slowly. I think
Dawa, Alex and I pulled out into the
fog at around 10am. At times, we
couldn't see much further than a
hundred feet, so the scenery was far
from spectacular. Like a moonscape.

Moonscape
It was sort of sleeting, raining and
snowing as we climbed up along the
lateral moraine of the Khumbu
Glacier. Dawa claimed the views were
outstanding...when it was clear.
Little did I know. Our Dzo master
was looking particularly stylish in
his green rain dress... while
sporting a black umbrella and a big
smile.

We got up to Gorak Shep at about
1pm. My aching head...and the fact
that my two porters wanted to
chill...caused me to decide to hang
out there. Alex wanted to push on
into the haze...so off he went with
our whole crew...minus the two
porters, Chandra and Little Buddha.
I tested the sat phone for a signal.
It was nice and strong...and perfect
for a wee hour 'hook up' with the
'Loose Cannons' in Los Angeles. I
spent the afternoon with two new
friends from Krakow, Benoit and Aga.
we provided each other with hours
and hours of entertainment while the
rather morose innkeeper moped around
the tea house. Good times.

Ben and Aga
Benoit suggested I wake them up
early if the skies were clear. I
said I would...as I tucked myself
into a corner of the common room.
After it got dark, I woke up to
Little Buddha adding a blanket to
the heaping pile that had become my
slumber pit. He was tucking in all
the other blankets and pushing a
table up against the bench so that I
didn't roll off. Talk about
attentive.
I'm looking forward to having these
guys be part of our 2008 summit
trip.

Night night... :^O
