June 8th: Uphill to Namche Bazar

by Phill Michael

'Bed Tea' happened around 6:30am. "What is 'Bed Tea'", you ask?! It's when you are awoken by a smiling face that hands you a hot cup of tea. Awesome. We did a leisurely deconstrution of camp and hit the trail to Namche by 8:30am. Alex and Chris took off while Dawa adjusted to my tortoise pace.

A Hooah Bar and Marmalade: A Winning Combination

It was to be another day of new views and beautiful people. We also saw numerous prayer stones and shrines. Dawa instructed me on how to walk around these places properly and I was like a little kid who has never been away from home...eyes as wide a saucers.

We passed by a whole series of waterfalls and I asked Dawa if they ever froze up. He said 'Not much.'. I might have to come back in the winter for a first ascent...or maybe somebody has already climbed them?! Who knows.

Dawa and I stopped for a coke break at Chumoa where I encountered an extremely friendly dog. A real bundle of energy...a bell around the neck and all.

After crossing the Larja bridge, we started the steep climb to Namche Bazar. It was a steady climb but not too difficult. As we neared Namche we spotted Chris. He was in search of some toilet paper. Fortunately I had some. After some rumblings in the bushes, Chris emerged with a huge smile on his face and real aura of satisfaction. 'Onwards to Namche!', we said.
