Executive Summary

Climbing the world's tallest mountain, Mount Everest, represents superlatives and the ultimate...in both the literal and the figurative sense. The Everest Freestyle Expedition will attain those superlatives for its members in terms of experiences and athletic achievement. We also aim to achieve this standard in terms of demonstrating the life enhancing potential of our sponsors' products to the general public and inspiring others to do what had previously seemed impossible.

Phill Michael (recipient of the Medtronic Freestyle Aortic Valve), Ang Dawa Sherpa, Chris Stanko, Alex Mondau and the rest of their support team will journey to the Tibetan side of Mount Everest. All of the team members are experienced climbers and outdoor people and represent excellence in their respective fields of endeavor. Phill, Ang Dawa Sherpa and their Sherpa climbing companions will make an ascent of the North Ridge route of Mount Everest to its summit while Chris, Alex and the rest of the Sherpa crew support them from Base Camp and Advanced Base Camp.

Upon reaching the summit of the highest peak on the planet, the team will descend via Nepal...thus completing a rare grand traverse of Mount Everest!

They will all be fulfilling lifelong goals and demonstrating to the public how someone who has undergone major cardiac surgery can climb their way to the top of the World.

The team will have high tech communication capabilities in the field and
plans an intense documentation of their journey, including high definition
video.  Along with the video documentation, the team will be pioneering an endeavor to conduct live, interactive video web conferencing directly from their camps on the mountain. These conferences as well as regular podcast updates on the expedition's progress will be available through this comprehensive expedition website.

It is the intention of the Everest Freestyle Expedition to bring massive attention to the incredible advances that have been made in science and medicine in the name of the improvement of quality of life. The ability to enjoy life with family and friends is beyond measurable value. The ability to pursue one's dreams is true freedom and privilege, a gift to be cherished and held up for the world to see.
